Native HANA means in general that the code has been developed on HANA and specifically for HANA. For example, BW has coding which can run on all databases which are certified for BW, and new code developed specifically for HANA = HANA native. Or another example, HANA studio is a native HANA application.

What is the role of the Persistence Layer?

The Virtual Data Model (VDM) is a structured representation of HANA database views used in SAP HANA Live.
The VDM provides direct access to SAP business data through SQL, MDX, or OData requests. Business data is made visible through database views that operate directly on the tables of the SAP Business Suite systems. These views can be consumed directly by rich client UIs such as HTML5, SAP BusinessObjects, or Microsoft Excel. The views do not require additional software layers such as an ABAP application system between them and the SAP Business Suite database leading to a two-tier architecture.
These views are the heart of the virtual data model. They expose the business data in a well-structured, consistent, comprehensible way covering all relevant business data in SAP Business Suite systems. They are designed for reuse by other views and build a stable access layer to SAP Business data. They shall not be consumed directly by analytic tools.

Yes. We do work with TN Visa holder who are living in USA. We will work with students who has valid work permit in USA and who are living in USA. But we do not provide services to get TN VISA (Immigration support). As of now, we only have clients in USA and don’t provide services in Mexico/Canada.
