Quick answer: This SAP Joule review scores Joule on 20 real SAP project tasks, grouped by the capability types SAP documents: navigational, informational, transactional, analytical, generative,e and developer tasks. An SAP subject matter expert ran every task in a real system and scored it on a 4-point rubric, from 3 (correct first time) to 0 (failed). According to SAP, Joule works across 35 solutions with more than 2,500 skills, so results depend heavily on your product, release, and setup.
Harish has led SAP finance and procurement projects for nine years. (Harish is a fictional example.) His client wants a straight answer before the next steering committee: "Is Joule ready for our users, or is it still a demo?"
Vendor slides say yes. Skeptics on his team say no. Nobody has tested it on his users' real work.
So Harish does the only thing that settles it. He writes down 20 real tasks and scores Joule on each one.
How We Tested SAP Joule: The Method
We tested SAP Joule by running 20 tasks taken from real SAP project work in one live system, with fixed prompts and a fixed scoring rubric.
A fair review needs rules written before the first prompt, or it is easy to remember only the impressive answers. Here is our SME's setup.
Three rules that keep the test honest
How We Scored Each Task: The 4-Point Rubric
Each task received a score from 0 to 3, based on whether Joule completed it correctly and how much help it needed.
We also recorded three extra notes for every task: how many follow-up questions Joule asked, whether the answer showed its source or a link to the app, and whether the same prompt gave the same result on the second run.
Consistency matters as much as accuracy. A task that scores 3 once and 1 the next time is not ready for a wide rollout.

What Types of Tasks Can SAP Joule Handle?
SAP documents four core Joule capability types: transactional, navigational, informational, and analytical.
According to SAP Learning , transactional capabilities let users perform daily business operations, navigational capabilities help them find SAP Fiori apps, informational capabilities return summarized answers from documentation, and analytical capabilities let them explore business data through conversation.
SAP's Demonstrating Joule lesson adds generative tasks, such as drafting meeting summaries and talking points, and code generation for developers. SAP also explains that Joule skills are atomic, predefined actions, while Joule agents plan and coordinate several skills for multi-step work.
That gave us six task groups. We weighted the test toward transactional tasks, because that is where users feel the biggest change.
The 20 SAP Joule Tasks We Tested
We chose 20 tasks across six capability groups, each matched to an example SAP document in its own learning or help content.
Navigational tasks (3)
Informational tasks (4)
SAP News reports that Joule can now take up to 10 uploaded PDF or text files in a conversation, according to the Q1 2026 release highlights .
Transactional tasks (6)
Analytical tasks (3)
Generative tasks (2)
Developer tasks (2)
SAP News describes Joule for Developers as supporting code suggestions, unit test creation, and code explanation, so both developer tasks fall within the documented scope.

What We Learned From Testing SAP Joule
The clearest lesson from 20 tasks is that a Joule score says as much about the system behind it as about Joule itself.
We grouped our findings into four questions. Each one helps you read the scorecard, and each one is worth asking in your own project.
1. Where did Joule perform best?
The three highest-scoring tasks were [SME RESULT: task names and scores]. What they had in common: [SME RESULT: e.g., a delivered skill, a clear business object, a single step].
2. Where did Joule struggle?
The three lowest-scoring tasks were [SME RESULT: task names and scores]. The main reason in each case was [SME RESULT: e.g., missing capability, ambiguous master data, role restrictions, unclear prompt].
3. Did the rephrased prompt change the result?
[SME RESULT: how many tasks changed score with a rephrased prompt, and in which direction]. This tells you how much user training matters for your rollout.
4. What surprised us?
[SME RESULT: one or two honest surprises, positive or negative].

Is SAP Joule Worth It? Our Honest Verdict
SAP Joule is worth it for tasks SAP has built skills for, in a system with correct setup, clean data, and trained users; outside that scope, expect to build or wait.
Our verdict on this test run: [SME RESULT: two- to three-sentence verdict based on the scorecard].
For consultants, the bigger takeaway is the method. Clients do not need another opinion on Joule. They need someone who can test it on their own processes, explain the scores, and fix the causes. That is a skill you can build now.

SAP Joule Review FAQs
Is SAP Joule worth it in 2026?
It depends on your setup. Joule works best on tasks SAP has built skills for, with clean data and correct roles. Test it on your own processes before judging it.
What can SAP Joule actually do?
SAP documents four core capability types: transactional, navigational, informational, and analytical. SAP Learning also describes generative tasks such as drafting summaries, and Joule for Developers supports ABAP code tasks.
How do you test SAP Joule properly?
Pick real tasks from your project, write the prompts before you start, run each task more than once, score results on a fixed rubric, and record every clarification Joule needed.
What are the main limitations of SAP Joule?
Joule depends on activated capabilities, user roles, data quality, and your product and release. Tasks without a delivered skill may need a custom skill or agent built in Joule Studio.
Can I see the full SAP Joule test results?
Yes. Download the free 20-task test results PDF from this article. It includes every prompt, score, and note from our SME's test run.
Back to Harish's Steering Committee
Harish does not walk into the steering committee with an opinion. He walks in with a scorecard.
Twenty tasks, six capability types, one rubric. Green where Joule is ready, amber where data or roles need work, and a short list of gaps that may need a Joule Studio skill.
The debate in the room changes. Nobody asks "Is Joule good?" anymore. They ask "Which five tasks do we switch on first?" That is the question a good review should leave behind.
