Myth 1: Will SAP Joule Replace SAP Consultants?
No. SAP positions Joule as support for people, not a replacement, and has even built a version of Joule specifically for consultants.
SAP Learning states that Joule is "designed to put humans in the driver's seat through preserving human oversight and agency." SAP also offers SAP Joule for Consultants, which SAP News describes as a copilot giving consultants answers from SAP's own content.
What really changes: fewer hours spent searching notes and documentation. More time on process design, testing, data quality, and change management. Someone still has to decide which Joule capabilities to enable, for which roles, with what data. That is consulting work.
Myth 2: Is SAP Joule Just ChatGPT Inside SAP?
No. Joule uses large language models, but it adds SAP system connections, role-based access, grounding, and skills that act inside SAP applications.
The SAP Architecture Center explains that Joule runs on SAP BTP, uses large language models available through SAP's Generative AI Hub, and connects to systems such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Ariba, and SAP Concur, with authentication through SAP Cloud Identity Services.
A public chatbot can write about purchase orders. Joule can show you yours, take you to the right app, or help create a document, depending on the capability and your role.
Myth 3: Does Joule Train on Our Company Data?
No. SAP states that customer data is not used to train AI models.
SAP Learning says that "any of our customers' data is not used for training purposes or any other usage for any 3rd party." The SAP Architecture Center adds that models are accessed under agreements prohibiting training on customer data.

Myth 4: Can Joule See Everything in the System?
No. Joule works with the permissions of the person using it.
According to SAP Learning , Joule inherits user authorization rights. The SAP Architecture Center describes role-based access as part of Joule's design.
So if a sales user cannot open payroll data in SAP, Joule should not show it to them either. In practice, many "Joule cannot do this" complaints in pilots are really role and authorization questions. That is good news for security consultants: their work becomes more important, not less.
Myth 5: Does Joule Only Answer Questions?
No. Joule also helps users navigate, complete transactions, and analyze data.

Myth 8: Does Joule Work the Same in Every SAP Product?
No. Joule capabilities differ by SAP product, edition, and release.

According to the Joule Studio product page, a skill handles a single, repetitive task, while an agent handles multistep problems that need reasoning. Functional consultants can design skills and agents. Developers take over when integrations or custom logic get complex.

Myth 10: Do Joule Agents Act Without Human Approval?
No. In SAP's own examples, people review and approve key actions before Joule agents carry them out.
In an SAP Learning lesson on Joule Agents, an employee reviews and adds context before a recommendation goes to the CFO, and the CFO approves the proposed resolution before it runs. SAP describes agents as able to plan, reflect, and use tools, but approval points are part of the design.
How much autonomy an agent gets is a design and governance choice. That choice belongs to the business and its consultants.
