SAP Analytics Cloud and HANA Enterprise Cloud – Network perspectives

SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud is a fully managed Private Cloud to host on-premise customer applications. SAP HEC hosts increasingly more on-premise customer SAP Applications. We currently have customers requesting to connect HANA, BW, S4/HANA, etc. from SAP Analytics Cloud.

As we proceed further, I would most likely be talking in detail about scenarios that have been proven in some customer proof of concepts which were performed in previous months.

For these blog sites, Client Business customers could be situated in three different domain names:

  • Public domain
  • Customer domain
  • HEC domain

Data Resources lie in two different domains:

  • Customer domain name
  • HEC Domain

HEC Data Acquisition scenario

HEC Data Acquisition scenario

In such a situation, SAP Cloud Port is located in the HEC domain. Customer Domain-based data sources are accessed through a devoted VPN connection between the HEC domain name and the Client Domain.

Outbound HEC Service tickets need to be requested to make necessary for SAP Cloud Port to connect SAP Analytics Cloud Tenants

Outbound HEC Service ticket is necessary for HEC based Business User to gain access to the SAP Analytics Cloud application.

HEC Live Connection with CORS scenario

HEC Data Acquisition scenario
  • In such a situation, a specific Outbound HEC Solution ticket has to be requested to enable HEC based Business User to gain access to SAP Analytics Cloud application.
  • Outbound HEC Solution ticket has to be requested to enable HEC based Business User to access Customer Domain-based data sources.
  • Inbound HEC Solution ticket needs to be requested to enable Public Internet-based Business User to access Client Domain-based data resources.
  • Incoming HEC Solution tickets have to be requested to enable Public Internet-based Business User to access HEC Domain-based data resources.

HEC Live Connection with Reverse Proxy Scenario

HEC Live Connection with Reverse Proxy Scenario
  • In such a situation, a specific Outbound HEC Service ticket has to be requested to enable HEC based Reverse Proxy to gain access to the SAP Analytics Cloud application.
  • Outbound HEC Service ticket needs to be requested to allow HEC based Reverse Proxy to access Client Domain name-based data resources.
  • Inbound HEC Solution ticket needs to be requested to allow Public Net-based Service Customer to gain access to HEC based Reverse Proxy.

HEC Live Connection with Reverse Proxy and SAML2 SSO scenario

SSO SAML2 federation procedure needs network settings to allow smooth flow in between Browsers, Identity Provider, and Service Provider.
To recognize necessary network settings, find below a reminder of SAML standard flow (Remember color coding).

HEC SAML Flow Live connection with Reverse Proxy Situation

In Reverse Proxy configuration, Browser needs to connect SAP Analytics Cloud and Identity Provider via Reverse Proxy. It is not necessary for Back-end Data Sources.

In such a scenario, a specific Outbound HEC Service ticket needs to be requested to enable HEC based Reverse Proxy to access SAP Analytics Cloud application SAML2 address (authn).

Outbound HEC Service ticket needs to be requested to enable HEC based Reverse Proxy to accessibility Client Domain-based data resources SAML2 Address.

In CORS setup, Browser directly connects SAC and Identity Service Provider. This configuration is fairly easier to build and administrate.

  • In such a situation, specific Outbound HEC Service tickets need to be requested to enable HEC based Business customers to access SAP Analytics Cloud application SAML2 address (authn).
  • Outbound HEC Solution ticket has to be requested to enable HEC based Service users to access customer Domain name-based data resources SAML2 Address.
