50 SAP AI Interview Questions You Should Be Ready to Answer in 2026

By ZaranTech Team. Prepare for SAP AI interviews in 2026 with 50 practical questions and answers covering Business AI, AI Core, Generative AI Hub, RAG, Joule, agents, Document AI, analytics and governance.

Priya is an SAP SD consultant with seven years of experience. As she prepared for her first SAP AI consultant interview, she started strong. She explained Joule, identified SAP AI Core and Generative AI Hub, and described how embedded AI works in S/4HANA.

Then the interviewer leaned in. “Our sales team wants Joule to answer questions from our pricing policy documents. Walk me through how you would build that, and how you would stop it from giving wrong answers.”

Priya knew the terms but struggled to connect them into a complete answer. She discussed prompts and data as separate topics, without a clear structure. The interviewer recognized her SAP knowledge but explained that she needed to show how to design a full AI solution.

This is a common challenge in SAP AI interviews. Many candidates know the terms but struggle to connect them to real business problems.

SAP AI interviews in 2026 focus on two skills: understanding the basics and applying them to solve business challenges. This guide helps you build both. You will find 50 SAP AI interview questions by topic and a four-step method for answering scenario questions.

At a glance

  • The 50 questions cover six key areas:
  • SAP Business AI foundations
  • SAP AI Core
  • Generative AI Hub
  • RAG
  • Joule and agents
  • Document AI, analytics, and governance
  • Focus most on scenario questions. Use the four-step method at the end of this guide to organize your answers.
  • These answers reflect SAP’s AI products as of September 2026. Check for the latest updates before your interview, since SAP releases new features each quarter.
  • How SAP AI Interviews Work in 2026

Most SAP AI interviews follow a similar pattern, whether the role is developer, architect, or functional consultant.

  • Concept questions: “What is Generative AI Hub?” These check that you know the building blocks.
  • Comparison questions: “How is an AI agent different from an assistant?” These check that you understand where each piece fits.
  • Scenario questions: “How would you build X for our team?” These check whether you can design a working solution. They usually decide the outcome.
  • Experience questions: “Tell me about something you built.” These check that you have done real hands-on work.
  • The shift toward practical skill is also visible in SAP’s own certifications, which moved from multiple-choice tests to scenario-based and system-based assessments across more than 100 exams ( SAP’s certification changes ). Interviewers expect the same: not just definitions, but the ability to apply them.

    How to use this list

  • Use these answers to check your understanding. Practice explaining each one in your own words instead of memorizing.
  • Add an example from your SAP module or project to each answer. This makes your response stronger and more relevant.
  • Practice saying your answers out loud. Aim for 30 to 60 seconds for concept questions and 2 to 3 minutes for scenario questions.
  • Section 1: SAP Business AI Foundations (Questions 1 to 10)

These questions give you a broad overview. If any are unclear, review the fundamentals of SAP Business AI before moving on.

    1. What is SAP Business AI?

SAP Business AI is SAP’s umbrella term for the AI built into its applications and platform. It includes embedded AI features in apps like S/4HANA Cloud, the Joule assistant and agents, and the services on SAP BTP used to build custom AI.

    2. What are the main ways AI shows up in SAP?

Three ways. Embedded AI inside SAP applications that users can switch on. Joule and AI agents, which users talk to or delegate tasks to. And custom AI that teams build on SAP BTP with services such as SAP AI Core and Generative AI Hub.

    3. What is Joule?

Joule is SAP’s AI assistant. Users ask questions or give instructions in plain language inside SAP applications, and Joule finds information, explains data, or completes tasks, based on what that user is allowed to access.

    4. How is an AI agent different from an AI assistant?

An assistant responds when asked, for example, answering “Which invoices are overdue?” An agent carries out steps in a process, such as drafting reminders, queuing them for approval, and updating the case. Agents need clearer rules, tools, and approval points.

    5. What role does SAP BTP play in SAP AI?

SAP BTP is the platform layer. It hosts the AI services, SAP HANA Cloud for data, and tools such as SAP Build Code and Joule Studio. You build and run custom AI solutions and extensions there.

    6. What is embedded AI? Give an example.

Embedded AI is AI built directly into an SAP application, delivered by SAP and switched on by the customer. Examples include AI-assisted contract creation in SAP Ariba and document data extraction for invoices.

    7. How do you choose a good AI use case?

Start with a clear business problem, then check four things: the data exists and is accessible, the value can be measured, the risk of a wrong answer is manageable, and a person can review key outputs.

    8. What does responsible AI mean in an SAP project?

It means AI is transparent, fair, secure, and supervised. In practice: limit what data the AI can see, protect personal data, keep a person in the loop for important decisions, test outputs before go-live, and log what the AI does.

    9. What changed in SAP AI in 2026?

SAP moved from AI features toward AI agents. At SAP Sapphire in May 2026, it presented an Autonomous Suite of agents and assistants, launched a new Joule Studio for building agents, and introduced SAP AI Agent Hub for governing agents.

    10. Why use SAP Business AI instead of a general chatbot?

SAP Business AI works with SAP business data and processes, respects SAP roles and authorizations, and runs inside the company’s governed landscape. A general chatbot has none of that context and no built-in control over what data it sees.

Section 2: SAP AI Core Interview Questions (Questions 11 to 18)

These questions are key for developers and architects. If you need a refresher, start with SAP AI Core for beginners.

    11. What is SAP AI Core?

SAP AI Core is the SAP BTP service that runs AI workloads. It handles model training, deployment, and lifecycle management, and it also hosts Generative AI Hub.

    12. What is SAP AI Launchpad?

SAP AI Launchpad is the web interface for managing AI work. Teams use it to connect AI Core instances, manage configurations and deployments, monitor status, and test prompts in Generative AI Hub.

    13. What is a resource group?

A resource group is a workspace inside SAP AI Core that keeps one team’s or project’s AI resources separate from others.

    14. What is the difference between a scenario and a configuration?

A scenario represents a use case and the workflows that belong to it. A configuration holds the specific settings for running a model in that scenario: which version, which parameters, and which input data.

    15. What is the difference between an execution and a deployment?

An execution is a one-time job, usually for training a model. A deployment keeps a model running as a service with an endpoint that applications can call at any time. Simply put: executions train; deployments serve.

    16. How does a custom model get into production in SAP AI Core?

Developers package the model code in a container image, define workflow templates in a Git repository synced to AI Core, and connect an object store for data and artifacts. They then create a configuration, train through an execution, and serve the result through a deployment.

    17. What is a service key, and why must you protect it?

A service key holds the credentials other tools use to connect to an AI Core instance. It works like a password, so never share it in chats or documents, and store it according to company security rules.

    18. How do you monitor AI models in SAP?

Through SAP AI Launchpad, which shows deployment status and details, plus logs and metrics from the running service. SAP also announced an inference observability service in its Q2 2026 release for centralized logging and feedback ( SAP Business AI Q2 2026 release highlights ).

Section 3: SAP Generative AI Hub Interview Questions (Questions 19 to 28)

These topics are central for SAP AI developer interviews and the C_AIG certification. For more details, see our SAP Generative AI Hub guide.

    19. What is Generative AI Hub?

Generative AI Hub runs within SAP AI Core and gives secure access to large language models from SAP and other providers through one interface. It includes tools for prompt management, orchestration, and safety.

    20. What is the orchestration service?

Orchestration runs a request through a series of modules, such as templating, grounding, data masking, content filtering, and translation, before and after the model call. The whole pipeline runs in a single API call ( SAP Learning: Introduction to Orchestration ).

    21. Which orchestration modules are required?

Templating and model configuration are required. Grounding, data masking, content filtering, and translation are optional and added based on the use case.

    22. What does data masking do?

It anonymizes or pseudonymizes personal data before the prompt reaches the model, so sensitive information such as names or IDs is not exposed.

    23. What does content filtering do?

It checks both the input and the model’s output against safety categories and blocks content above a set severity. This helps prevent harmful or inappropriate responses reaching users.

    24. Why does a harmonized API matter?

Orchestration maps different models to one common API. Teams can switch from one model to another without rewriting the application, keeping solutions flexible as new models emerge.

    25. What is a prompt template, and why use one?

A prompt template is a saved prompt with placeholders that fill in with different data each time. Templates give consistent results, can be reviewed and improved centrally, and can be stored and reused through a prompt registry.

    26. How would you choose a model for a use case?

Match the model to the task. Use smaller, faster models for simple, high-volume tasks like classification or extraction, and larger models for complex reasoning or long documents. Test two or three models on the same template with real sample data before deciding.

    27. How do you keep generative AI costs under control?

Costs usually depend on the amount of text processed, measured in tokens. Choose the right-sized model, send only the data needed, limit output length, reuse tested templates, and monitor usage with alerts.

    28. What prompt engineering techniques do you use?

Give the model a role, a clear task, business context and a required output format. Add one example of the expected output, tell it what to do when data is missing, and ask for structured output such as a table or JSON so results are easy to check.

Section 4: RAG and SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine (Questions 29 to 36)

RAG questions show if you have hands-on experience or only theory. For a step-by-step guide, see RAG on SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine.

    29. What is RAG?

Retrieval-augmented generation is a method where the system first retrieves relevant documents or data, then passes them to the model so it answers based on that content. It grounds answers in trusted company information.

    30. Why use RAG instead of fine-tuning a model?

RAG keeps knowledge in documents you control, so updates are as simple as changing the documents. It also lets you show sources for each answer. Fine-tuning changes the model itself, costs more, and is harder to update when policies change.

    31. What is an embedding?

An embedding is a list of numbers that represents the meaning of a piece of text. Texts with similar meaning have embeddings that are close together, enabling meaning-based search.

    32. What role does SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine play?

It stores embeddings alongside business data in SAP HANA Cloud and searches them by similarity, using functions such as COSINE_SIMILARITY and L2DISTANCE ( SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine ).

    33. What is chunking, and why does it matter?

Chunking splits long documents into smaller passages before creating embeddings. Chunks that are too large bring in noise; chunks that are too small lose context.

    34. How does grounding work in Generative AI Hub?

The grounding module in orchestration retrieves relevant content from a vector store, such as SAP HANA Cloud, and adds it to the prompt before the model call. The model then answers using that retrieved content.

    35. How do you reduce wrong or made-up answers?

Ground answers in trusted documents, instruct the model to answer only from the provided content and say when it doesn’t know, show sources, keep a person reviewing high-impact answers, and test with real questions before go-live.

    36. How would you evaluate a RAG solution?

Build a test set of real questions with expected answers. Check whether the right chunks are retrieved, whether answers stay faithful to those chunks, and whether they are complete. Collect user feedback after launch and review failures regularly.

Section 5: SAP Joule Interview Questions and AI Agents (Questions 37 to 43)

Joule and agents are changing quickly in SAP AI. For hands-on practice, try building AI assistants with Joule Studio.

    37. What can Joule do for business users?

Joule helps users find information, get explanations of business data, navigate apps, and complete tasks using plain language. For example, a finance user can ask for overdue invoices and have reminders drafted for review.

    38. What is Joule Studio?

Joule Studio is where teams build their own assistants, agents, and workflows. SAP describes the new Joule Studio, announced in May 2026, as a fully managed offering for the full lifecycle of AI agents, apps and workflows ( Joule Studio announcement ).

    39. What is the difference between a Joule skill and a Joule agent?

A skill performs a defined action or workflow predictably, such as fetching data or starting a process. An agent uses a language model to reason about a goal and decide which tools or skills to use, so it needs clearer boundaries and oversight.

    40. How would you design an AI agent safely?

Define a narrow goal, give the agent only the tools and data it needs, add human approval before important actions, log every step, set clear stop conditions, and test with realistic and unusual cases before release.

    41. What is SAP AI Agent Hub?

SAP AI Agent Hub is a central place to discover, manage, and govern AI agents, language models, and MCP servers, including those from other vendors. SAP described it in its Q2 2026 release highlights as a control plane for enterprise agents.

    42. What is MCP, and why is it relevant to SAP AI?

Model Context Protocol is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to tools and data sources consistently. It matters in SAP because agents increasingly work across SAP and non-SAP systems, and SAP AI Agent Hub includes MCP servers in its governance.

    43. What is SAP Joule for Consultants?

It is a version of Joule aimed at SAP consultants, helping with SAP knowledge questions and project tasks. SAP’s Q2 2026 release added custom knowledge grounding and an expert workspace.

Section 6: Document AI, Analytics, Governance and Scenarios (Questions 44 to 50)

Functional consultants and candidates in final-round scenario interviews often see these questions.

    44. What is SAP Document AI?

SAP Document AI extracts data from documents such as invoices, purchase orders, and forms, and passes it into business processes. SAP’s Q2 2026 release added language model selection, new standard document types, and configurable confidence thresholds.

    45. What is a confidence threshold, and how would you set it?

A confidence threshold is the level below which an extracted value is sent to a person for review instead of being processed automatically. Set it by testing with real documents, starting cautiously and adjusting as accuracy improves.

    46. What AI features does SAP Analytics Cloud offer?

SAP Analytics Cloud includes predictive features, such as Smart Predict for forecasting and classification, and natural-language features that let users ask questions about their data in plain language. Check current feature names, as they are updated regularly.

    47. How would you govern AI in an SAP project?

Agree on which data each AI solution can access, protect personal data with masking, require human approval for high-impact actions, test outputs before go-live, log activity, and manage agents centrally. Design governance from the start, not as an afterthought.

    48. Which SAP certification covers generative AI?

SAP Certified - SAP Generative AI Developer (C_AIG). SAP lists it as a 3-hour, system-based assessment with a 76% pass score, focused on Generative AI Hub, prompt engineering, and orchestration. Always check SAP Learning for the current version.

    49. Scenario: Our sales team wants an assistant that answers questions from pricing policy documents. How would you build it?

First, confirm the goal and which documents and users are in scope. Then store the policy documents in SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine and use grounding in Generative AI Hub so answers come only from those documents, with sources shown. Build the assistant in Joule Studio, restrict access by role, and mask any personal data. Finally, test with real sales questions, set a review process for unclear answers, and track accuracy after launch.

    50. Tell me about an SAP AI solution you have built.

Structure your answer clearly. Explain the business problem, what you built, which SAP AI services you used, one challenge you addressed, and the outcome. Be honest about your project’s size. A small, well-explained project is preferable to a vague description of a larger one.

Scenario questions, like question 49, often decide SAP AI interview results. Use the 4-step method below to give your answers a clear structure.

    Step 1: Clarify the goal

Restate the business problem. Ask one or two questions to clarify who the users are, what data is involved, and what success looks like.

Step 2: Choose the building blocks

List the SAP services you would use and explain why. For example, use Joule Studio for the assistant, Generative AI Hub for the model, and HANA Cloud Vector Engine for retrieval.

Step 3: Build in safety and governance

Explain how you would protect data, limit access, keep a person involved, and prevent wrong answers. Interviewers focus on this step because it often determines project success.

Step 4: Plan testing and rollout

Describe how you would test with real cases, start with a small user group, measure accuracy and adoption, and improve the solution over time.

Go back to question 49, and you will see all four steps in the model answer.

Conclusion: Prepare for the Question After the Definition

Think about Priya’s experience. She knew the definitions but needed more practice connecting them. With the four-step method and these 50 SAP AI interview questions, her pricing-policy answer could have taken three minutes and covered the goal, building blocks, safeguards, and rollout.

Most candidates in 2026 need to close this gap. Knowing Joule, Generative AI Hub, and SAP AI Core is just the start. Interviewers look for people who can use these tools to solve business problems. If you want to build these skills, see our SAP AI course guide for recommendations.
